cell phone Attendance procedure
Mrs. Klein's
Phone Policy
Comedian Kevin Hart described "taking a child's phone [as] detrimental to [their] style" and I completely understand. Phones have become like an external limb, something that has become a part of you. And part of that includes the need and compulsion to exercise and use that limb frequently, if not constantly. However in the classroom setting phones are not a limb to be used during class. After the long observance of seeing phones serve more as a distraction to learning, the following policy has been made to ensure that you are able to focus during class.

-
Upon entering class each day, place your phone in your specified numbered slot along the wall of my classroom.
-
ALL ATTENDANCE WILL BE TAKEN IN THIS FASHION: If your numbered slot is empty, you will be marked absent. If you do you not have a phone, you will place a marker or calculator in the slot to indicate your presence.
-
VIOLATIONS: If I see your phone out of the slot without prearranged permission for any reason, or worse, you place a dummy phone in the slot, this will be treated as open defiance rather than a typical cell phone violation due its highly deceptive & disrespectful nature. An immediate referral will be given on the 1st offense; the 2nd offense will result in a suspension from my class; the 3rd offense will be handled by the Vice Principal. I do not foresee any violations even happening because I know I have respectful and great students.

-
EXCEPTIONS: If you truly need to use your phone for a vital reason, simply ask, and I will allow you to make your call/text before returning it to the slot. (I am reasonable; I understand there are days when you genuinely need to be accessible.)
